50 Layouts : June Update

50 Layouts : June Update | Nicole Reaves

Try as I might, I wasn't able to keep up with my layout a week goal in June. Guys, what was I thinking? If I'm being realistic, getting a couple done each month this summer is probably going to be it for me. I completed two layouts this month so that puts me at 22 out of 50 for the year. Not quite half and that's okay with me.

I shared #21 here and this is the second I completed last week. If you read the journaling, you might find it ironic that we lost power again for a few hours last Friday and yesterday while they made repairs after a recent storm. No big deal when the weather is nice and the kids are busy, but totally annoying when you have dinner in the crockpot. Ugh. Here is the full layout :

Morgan and Parker are awesome and totally go with the flow when the power goes out. This layout was all about a completely normal evening when they actually asked to turn all of the lights out so we could read by candlelight before bedtime. And Morgan wanted to do the reading. Super cool + something I consider "magic."

After adhering a four-inch strip of the star / constellation paper to the right side, I butted up a 4x6 photo to it, making the top and left side margins equal. This left me with a fair amount of space below the photo for my journaling. Going with the colors in Ali's Magic Story Kit, I incorporated some gold into the layout to go with the tan alpha stickers and gold stars by adding the big gold ampersand transparency and vellum in the corners. I used the screen print from the Story Kit, along with the gold paint, in the space where I journaled, and let it dry completely before adding my writing. I was impressed with how quickly it dried (and with no smudges).

I also added a little stamping with the new Clearly Kelly 100% Me set. A personal peeve of mine is when I hand-write my journaling and don't have enough to say to fill the entire line. That blank space bugs me. Silly, right? Finding a stamp with just the right phrase to fill in that bare spot has become my solution lately and I like the look. Here it was "I loved this moment." I'll be using that a ton. I combined black and deja blue inks here to tie in the dark photo and blue patterned paper.

Afterthought : as I was photographing this layout, I realized I forgot to add the date! Consider this my reminder to find a good spot for that. Hate when that happens. Later this week I hope to share my goal tracker as it stands at the midway point of 2015.

In 2015, I want to use my stash and tell more stories, so I've set a goal to create 50 layouts. 22 down, 28 to go. You can see them all here.
